Pierre Trimbach was born in 1956. He started to work at Trimbach in 1979. Today, Pierre, « the proud moustache from Alsace », is reputed as a Grand Vigneron by all the top journalists and by the Alsace wine lovers.
In 2006, 10 years ago already, Pierre was elected one of the 10 TOP White Winemakers in the World by Decanter Mag, along with other stars like Egon Muller, Didier Daguenau, Olivier Humbrecht, etc.
In April 2016, he is elected one of the 10 Masters of Riesling, in the magazine En Magnum by Bettane & Desseauve.
A few months later in August 2016, he is made « the Personality of the Year » by Bettane + Desseauve French Guide 2017, by the reputed journalists Guillaume Puzo, Michel Bettane, Thierry Desseauve and the B+D Team.
In this 2017 guide, journalists give 20/20 to Trimbach Riesling 2008 Cuvée Frédéric Emile.
Today, we are honored and proud to share with you that our new Riesling 2009 Grand Cru Geisberg « Vignoble du Couvent de Ribeauvillé » has just been rated 98 points by James Suckling in his very new book about Great wines of Alsace and is N°1 of his TOP 100 wines of Alsace.
As you may have heard, there is a new top restaurant opening in Alsace at Villa René Lalique (villarenelalique.com), in the North of Alsace, where Mr Jean Georges Klein (3*** Michelin star ex chef of l’Arnsbourg) will be Chef and Romain Iltis (best France’s sommelier 2014 and Meilleur Ouvrier de France) the Sommelier.
Lalique (Mr Denz, owner of the Villa Lalique but also some Bordeaux Chateaux) and James Suckling are the official editors for this new book about Alsace, which is listing 650 top wines from the region, and a top 100. For those who do not know James Suckling (jamessuckling.com) : he was with Wine Spectator for many years.
James says in this book that Alsace is right now the MOST EXCITING WINE REGION OF FRANCE !
Jean Trimbach has attended a lunch with top Alsace producers on Monday 28th of September. He came back with very good news ! 98 points for Geisberg GC 2009 and N°1 OF THE TOP 100 ! (already sold out)
Frédéric Emile 2009 (97 points), Frederic Emile 2007 (97 points) and Clos Ste Hune 2009 (95 points) are also very well rated in the TOP 100.

RIESLING 2009 GRAND CRU GEISBERG – Vignoble du Couvent de Ribeauvillé
After 5 years of bottle ageing in the cellar, Maison Trimbach is releasing its first vintage of Grand Cru Geisberg: 2009.
We have been leasing the Vineyards of the Convent of Ribeauvillé for several years now. In 2009, we have produced our first Grand Cru Geisberg.
Pierre Trimbach and his team have been working the Grand Cru Geisberg behind the domaine for years, this one being assembled wit GC Osterberg into the famous Frederic Emile. Their knowledge of this terroir has enabled them to produce a great wine on these 2,66 Ha from the Convent.
The Geisberg is a jewel of Alsace. Located in between two other Grands Crus on Ribeauvillé’s fault line, the limestone and sandstone subsoil, the old vines, the exposure to the sun and the small steep terrasses make it a very unique and complex terroir of only 8,5 Ha total.
The wine is intense and has a great energy. A gastronomie wine able to age between 10 to 30 years in the top vintages.
It is the first wine from a Grand Cru named after its terroir, following the wish of the Nuns of Ribeauvillé’s Convent and the new local GC Legislation from 2011 onwards, which is now well defined by a very precise chart managing the yields (55hl/ha max), the minimum potential alcohol at picking being 11,5°, chaptalisation being forbidden, etc.
We are very proud to introduce you this GC Geisberg 2009, unfortunately produced in limited volume, almost confidential…

We have produced a superb 2008. 2008 is a bit like 2007: the wine will need more time to be ready. Frederic Emile 2008 is still tight and closed, when 2009 is singing already much more !
The Wine Spectator just released their “Insider”, where they list the 40 wines at 90-plus points which are the most exciting right now. We have the pleasure to see our Frederic Emile 2009 in it with 92 Points.
Still young, of course, Freddie 2009 has its life if front of it, at least 20 more years. But it’s already very attractive !
So to make it short, for Frederic Emile and Clos Ste Hune Rieslings,
- Latest release is 2007,
- next release is 2009.
- In 2015 or later, we will launch the 2008s.
Jean Trimbach is back in Boston on the 18th of March 2014 for a Trimbach Dinner with fantastic Chef Daniel Bruce at the Boston Harbor Hotel during the Annual Boston Wine Festival.
This year, it is the 25th Anniversary of the Boston Wine Festival and it has been a tradition to have Jean come for a dinner with his long time friend Daniel.

2007 was a miracle vintage: a warm spring, a beautiful harvests season, top dry wines, precision, but also a wonderful weather following the “classic harvests”, which allowed Pierre and the team to produce VTs and SGNs with such a purity! Pierre considers this vintage 2007 one of the really top ones in Alsace.
The Prestige Case is composed of 6 Top Trimbach wines from 2007.
Pinot Gris “Réserve Personnelle”, a real compagnon for gastronomie, only produced in the best vintages. Loves truffles, fish in sauce, smoked fishes or meats, white meats, etc.

Gewurztraminer «Sélection de Grains Nobles» «Hors Choix» is extremely rare The last vintage Pierre produced was 2000. The richness is there, in terms of aromas and sweetness, but again the wine is dominated by a wonderful acidity. Keep is for years!
